Fellow creators FudgeMuppet confirmed the news on March 14, 2026, sharing a heartfelt statement revealing that Rowles, known online as Camelworks, had passed away. A celebration of life had already taken place among family and close friends, with his ashes scattered at a national park he loved to visit.

No cause of death has been publicly disclosed, and Rowles' family has asked fans to respect their privacy during this time.

Who was Camelworks?

Rowles built his channel into one of the definitive homes for Elder Scrolls and Bethesda deep dives, amassing over 750,000 subscribers and nearly 193 million views across hundreds of meticulously crafted videos. His flagship series, Curating Curiosities, earned a devoted following for the way it explored every overlooked corner, easter egg, and unanswered lore question in games like Skyrim and Morrowind.

Where other gaming creators focused on gameplay, Camelworks was an explainer. His calm narration and obsessive attention to detail turned dense in-game lore into accessible, compelling storytelling, and his audience loved him for it. Many fans have shared that they would fall asleep to his videos, his voice becoming a comforting backdrop to their evenings.

FudgeMuppet's tribute

Michael and Scott of FudgeMuppet, who knew Rowles personally since 2015, shared a lengthy tribute recounting their years of friendship. The two channels came up together during the early days of gaming content on YouTube, meeting at local cafes to swap tactics and give each other encouragement when few people believed a career in gaming content was viable.

FudgeMuppet described Rowles as someone who was always willing to help, whether that meant appearing in skits, spending hours dissecting the TES iceberg, or designing thumbnails for their channel in those formative early years. They called him "one of the core pillars of the TES/BGS community" and emphasized how much he valued his audience's support.

Fans reflect on his impact

Tributes have poured in across Reddit, gaming forums, and social media, with fans sharing personal stories of how Camelworks shaped their love of The Elder Scrolls. One fan wrote that they grew up watching his videos through foster care, and that his content helped them discover a passion for worldbuilding. Others simply expressed disbelief that such a familiar, comforting presence could be gone so suddenly.

Rowles had dealt with a health scare in 2024, when he revealed on Instagram that he had experienced a heart attack lasting 16 hours. He was treated at a hospital and said at the time that doctors had described him as a healthy 32-year-old.

In 2025, Rowles also faced the loss of access to his original YouTube channel due to a Google account issue, a setback that forced him to start a new channel and rebuild.

A legacy that won't be forgotten

Camelworks' videos will remain online as a testament to the hundreds of hours he poured into documenting the worlds he loved. For a generation of Elder Scrolls fans, his work didn't just inform. It taught them how to look at the games they played, inspiring a curiosity that extended far beyond any single video.

As FudgeMuppet wrote in their tribute: "May you live on in us all when we wander off the beaten path, searching every nook and cranny just to see what's there."

Mackenzie Rowles was 33 years old.

His family asks that fans share their favourite memories of him and remember him for his endless passion, love of diving into the details, and the joy he brought to everyone around him.
