Andrew Tate is facing renewed legal scrutiny in the UK after Hertfordshire Police officially reopened their investigation into allegations of rape and sexual assault against him.

The allegations date back to 2014 and 2015, and were previously investigated for four years before the case was closed in 2019, a decision that is now itself under review. The police watchdog launched an internal inquiry into potential failings in how the original investigation was handled, which directly led to the case being reopened.

Three women had originally brought accusations against Tate, but the case was dropped without charges being filed. A spokesperson for Tate told the BBC he "continues to strongly deny all allegations."

The three women said in a joint statement that the renewed investigation was long overdue. "We have never given up our search for justice," they said. Together with a fourth woman, the three are also pursuing a civil case against Tate, with that trial scheduled for June.

Multiple legal cases across Europe

The UK investigation is one of several ongoing legal matters involving Tate. He and his brother Tristan are currently facing separate proceedings in Romania, which they also deny. Once those conclude, both brothers are expected to be extradited to the UK to face further charges of rape and human trafficking, allegedly spanning 2012 to 2015. Bedfordshire Police have issued an international arrest warrant for both men in connection with that case.

The brothers were born in the United States but grew up in Luton after relocating to England with their mother following their parents' divorce. They hold dual US and British citizenship and are currently based in Romania.

Andrew Tate rose to prominence through social media, building a large following particularly among young men. His brother Tristan has been closely associated with his online presence throughout.
