11-year-olds filmed chanting "Germany for Germans" to "L'Amour Toujours" at party spark major uproar
Footage from a club night in Falkenberg, Germany shows teenagers chanting "Germany for Germans, Foreigners Out" to Gigi D'Agostino's "L'Amour Toujours,"
The clip, which surfaced on Instagram, shows young partygoers at a teen disco in the "Blue Velvet" club chanting "Deutschland den Deutschen, Ausländer raus," meaning "Germany for Germans, foreigners out," to the melody of Gigi D'Agostino's iconic early-2000s hit "L'Amour toujours."
The incident is being heavily discussed in German press and on social media, where the chants have been widely described as "racist," and has drawn sharp reactions from politicians at multiple levels of government.
What happened at the Falkenberg party?
According to club owner Tino Veit, who spoke to the German Press Agency (dpa), the teen disco last Saturday hosted around 100 to 150 children and teenagers, some as young as eleven. The original DJ failed to show up, and while Veit was searching for a replacement, a playlist was put on which included "L'Amour toujours." That's when the chanting began.
A replacement DJ later played the track a second time and was reportedly "surprised" by the crowd's reaction. Veit said that once he realized the situation was escalating, he went on stage, turned the music down, and told the crowd that the chanted lyrics did not belong in the song.
Veit said he regretted what happened, especially given it was an event for minors, and stated he would better prepare DJs for such situations in the future.
Politicians respond
Brandenburg's Minister-President Dietmar Woidke (SPD) posted on Instagram expressing disbelief that two full loops of the song played before anyone intervened. "Teenagers chanting Nazi slogans and nobody steps in. I am speechless. We must never stay silent about this," he wrote.
The district administrator of Elbe-Elster, Christian Jaschinski (CDU), also condemned the incident in a public statement, calling the chants "unacceptable" and saying they "have no place in our society."
The history of "L'Amour toujours" in Germany
The party anthem by Italian DJ Gigi D'Agostino is over 20 years old, and its original chorus contains no lyrics. The song has repeatedly made headlines in Germany. A particularly high-profile incident in 2024 saw visitors at a bar on the North Sea island of Sylt filmed chanting the same slogans to the melody, which triggered nationwide outrage at the time.
It is worth noting, however, that the chant has also taken on a life of its own as an internet meme, and many who sing along are arguably doing so without any deeper political intent or ideological conviction.
